As I receive many emails with questions I have compiled this FAQ to help. I strongly advise you scan the questions before you email me as it is very likely you will not get your email replied to if the information is already here in this handy FAQ. My email address can be found at the bottom of this page if you have any comments.

Can you help me with a school project?

Unfortunately I cannot help with any school projects. I work full time myself and have little time (I would like more) to update this website as it is. Everything that I have on the subject of ketchup is here, take a browse round!

Where can I find ketchup brand X?

I get asked quite a bit if I know where to find a certain brand of ketchup that used to be a favourite. Unfortunately I am not an expert on ketchup brands apart from what we all see in the supermarket. Also being based in the UK I dont get to see many of the brands that some of our American visitors are lucky to have available in their supermarkets. I suggest using the web as a research medium. Tap in the name of your favourite brand into a search engine and see what it gives you!

Do you have a recipe for ketchup x/more info?

I get asked quite a bit for information that is not on the website, basically I try and update with new information as it arrives. If you cannot see it on the website I do not have it. I don't hide things away and wait for people to ask me!! :).

What's the difference between Ketchup and Catsup? And what is Fancy Ketchup?

Well, this one is up for debate. As far as I am concerned they are the same thing. Catsup is a sauce, Ketchup is a sauce. One opinion I heard that was Catsup was the less commercial far tastier version of Ketchup. As for Fancy Ketchup, I would be keen to hear from people with some opinions, but I think Fancy Ketchup is similar to Catsup, again just another name.

Should Ketchup be refridgerated?

From personal experience my ketchup has survived outside of the fridge very well. I have never seen mouldy ketchup probably because I eat it too quickly. I tend to place my ketchup bottles in the fridge only because I now prefer the taste of cold ketchup over warm ketchup. So, No, you don't have to, but eat it within a few months.

I am allergic to ingredients 'x' in brand 'x' ketchup. What should I do?

If you are at all concerned by the contents of ketchup then contact the suppliers. They usually put a packing address on the label, this should lead you to a Customer Services address. Unfortunately I cannot offer any health advice. It's even fun to try out my recipes, that way you can ensure that the ingredients are suited to your diet.

Where can I purchase one of those tomato shaped ketchup dispensers?

One of Planet Ketchups visitors (Thankyou Sarah Harris!!) has kindly found us a website which sells these dispensers in the UK. Visit KitschenSync and go to Kitchen Capers'. Scroll down that page to see the squeezy ketchup shaped dispenser!! You will find this in UK pounds and shipping to the UK too. Other visitors are catered for but I believe you will need to email them regarding international shipping.

Where on earth did you get all this information on ketchup from?

It's all collected from the Interent and my personal collection. Some of course may not be correct, but it's done for fun and credit is given to authors where it is due. I always look to expand the site, and add new information as I find it.

Are you connected/working with any of the ketchup manufacturers on this web site?

No. One day I decided to do a crazy website about my favourite condiment. I have not been approached by any of the ketchup manufacturers.

Does ketchup contain pigs blood?

In the UK food manufacturers are required by law to show the product ingredients on the packaging. The Heinz bottle I have here certainly does not contain pigs blood. I cannot see the reason why ketchup would need to contain pigs blood. Strangely enough people do ask - but please don't email me about this as I really think its a question for the ketchup manufacturs.

Why is there a pickle on the Heinz Ketchup bottle?

Henry J Heinz started off producing grated Horseradish bottled in clear glass to reveal its purity. This made the pickle king a millionaire and celebrity. He came up with the slogan "57 Varieties" and invented the legendary "pickle pin".
